A finales de los años 70s había ciertas dudas sobre la calidad que ofrecían las Fender americanas. Fender Musical inst,. atravesaba una época enrarecida y convulsa. Se buscó aumentar la producción sin cuidar mucho la calidad y buscaron reducir el coste de fabricación de cada guitarra. Todo esto implicó unos fallos en el nivel de calidad que pagó la marca con una mala reputación entre guitarristas.

Todos los bajistas y guitarristas buscaban modelos de décadas anteriores. lo que todos hablamos de las guitarras fender antes de la CBS.
En esa época la industria japonesa del instrumento musical empezaba a vivir un explendor copiando las piezas a una fracción del precio Algunas marcas y fabricantes japoneses comenzaron a producir excelentes réplicas de calidad que se vendían por mucho menos dinero que una guitarra construida en Estados Unidos.
Fender reaccionó a este hecho montando su fábrica de guitarras japonesas. A principio de los años 80s. La empresa japonesa FujiGen Gakki construyó una serie de guitarras Fender hoy en día muy apreciadas y queridas por los guitarristas
